Atlantic & Caribbean Hurricane Season Expected to Stay Highly Active

NOAA has issued an update predicting that the Atlantic hurricane season will remain highly active. Favorable conditions, including near-record sea surface temperatures and the potential development of La Niña, are contributing to this heightened activity.

The forecast now anticipates 17-24 named storms, with 8-13 expected to become hurricanes, and 4-7 of those possibly reaching major hurricane status. The season has already been noteworthy, with Hurricane Beryl becoming the earliest Category 5 storm on record.

As the peak of the season approaches, NOAA stresses the importance of preparedness. They urge communities in hurricane-prone areas to stay vigilant and have emergency plans in place.

This year’s season could be one of the busiest on record, underscoring the need for ongoing monitoring and readiness. NOAA continues to provide updates and guidance as the situation develops.
