De-Bunkering Services
Caribbean Fuels was founded to supply only the highest quality petroleum products to all types of ocean-going vessels. Over time, Caribbean Fuels has adhered to new rules and regulations in the maritime industry, specifically with the updated IMO 2020 rules in place as of 1 January 2020. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) ruled that from 1 January 2020, marine sector emissions in international waters must be slashed by making vessels burn low-sulphur fuels.
De-bunkering is the term commonly used for offloading non-compliant bunker fuel from a ship. As IMO 2020 came into force on 1 January 2020 and the carriage ban on 1 March 2020, shipowners now face de-bunkering non-compliant fuel if the fuel is off-spec or if their on-board scrubbers cannot successfully reduce emissions. Caribbean Fuels has noticed a large increase in off-spec fuel claims as of 2020 due to the new marine fuels in the low-sulphur era including VLSFO 0.5% and ULSFO 0.1%.
